NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents

This is my final newsletter of the school year, so I would like to use it to say “thank you”, “best wishes” and “see you next year” to various people.

First, “thank you”. After another very busy and successful year at the school I would like to thank all the teachers and support staff in the school for their hard work, care, dedication and achievements throughout the year. It is a great privilege to work with such a wonderful team.

Thank you to all the pupils who have contributed to the school through their hard work across the year. In particular, thanks to the head boys and girls, all who volunteered to help others across the school and all who represented the school at the many activities and events. Well done to everyone!

Thank you to all parents and carers for your excellent support and involvement with the school. It has been a very active year and sometimes communications can be stretched, but you have been very supportive in providing for your children and they benefit enormously from this. A big thank you to the PTA for their work in raising funds and supporting the school.

Finally, I would like to thank the community of Seaton represented by the excellent governing body who worked hard to make the school a success, and thank other local agencies who have also supported the school, Chris Bolsover the PCSO, Mary Sanders, the school nurse and many others who are too numerous to name.

Now, to move to the “best wishes”. Best wishes to all our Year 6 as they move on to their secondary schools. I hope I hear good things of them and we look forward to seeing them at future events. Also, best wishes to Miss Bull who will be getting married during the summer – she will return in September as Mrs Gillard. Finally, best wishes to Mrs Voysey who is leaving at the end of term to have her baby. I wish her all the best.

Now for “see you next year” . . . I would like to wish all our children and families a happy (and hopefully sunny!) summer holiday and I look forward to seeing all Year 5 and below in September.

Next year we will begin to work on the issues raised by OFSTED at our recent inspection. School attendance will be more carefully monitored and the Educational Welfare Officer will be working closely with us to ensure that all children attend as much as they possibly can. The school will also work hard to ensure that the quality of teaching and learning is high across the school to maintain and improve further the high standards we already achieve. More of this in September.

LOST PROPERTY

There is still a box full of unnamed uniform. Please check for any lost items before the end of term as anything remaining will be disposed of.

SPONSORED SCRAMBLE

Thank you to everyone who supported our sponsored scramble. We raised a tremendous £2,554.40, which is the most we have ever raised with this fund raising event. The money is in our school fund account which pays for various activities, such as visiting theatre groups, musicians, workshops, etc.

ALL DAY FUND RAISING EVENT

Karen and Hayley Youens are having an all day fund raising event on Saturday, 18th July 2009, from 10.30am to 5.00pm at ‘Holdenby’, Fore Street, Seaton. There will be various stalls, raffle, cakes, refreshments, bouncy castle and much more. All money raised goes to the Exeter Leukemia Fund and Guide Dogs. Go along and have a fun day!

SWIMMING

On behalf of the children and staff I would like to thank Mr Weber for all his hard work in keeping the swimming pool so well maintained for our lessons. Also, thank you to Mr Hawkins, our lifeguard, without whom we would be unable to swim. The children have enjoyed a fantastic half term of lessons.

PTA NEWS from Claire Ross

Summer Fete: I’m sure everyone wants to know how much was raised on Saturday. Unfortunately we can’t give you a final figure as not all receipts have been processed. We didn’t make as much money as last year – hardly surprising considering the skittles, inflatable obstacle course and Year 6 games all got rained off at 3.00pm! But, we think we have raised over £1,500. Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped on stalls, particularly the BBQ helpers, plant stall donors and Alison. Thanks also to the many families who braved the rain and came along and supported the fete.

There are some things still available for sale – crisps will be sold at the school gate after 3.00pm on Friday (tomorrow), 30p per bag. There are also frozen burgers and sausages provided by Mulberry Manor butchers for sale at 60p and 40p respectively.

Unclaimed Raffle Prizes: We have some unclaimed raffle prizes – yellow tickets 17, 210 and 548. Also, two plants and a soft toy were left in the Kitchen area. All these items are available for collection from the office.
Claire Ross

Yours sincerely
