How to choose a book

• Read the blurb - this may be on the back or inside cover.
• Look at the illustrations.
• Read the first page to see if you like it.
• Do the five finger test.
• Look at the title and the cover.

Read a page of the book.

Each time you make a mistake or are not sure of a word put down one finger.

If you have put down five fingers by the time you finish the page (or before), then it is probably too hard for you to read alone. You could share it with a friend or an adult.

Sometimes information books can be hard, but you can still learn a lot from the pictures and some of the writing.
